The Zambia Artisan Awards 2018

The Zambia Artisan Awards have been launched to celebrate the excellence, creativity and talent of artisans in Zambia

  • To be held at the Zambia Art and Design Show
    16, 17 and 18 November
    Polocrosse ground, Chifwema Road, Lusaka
  • Announcement of winners
    Sunday 18 November, 12:00 hours at Zambian Art and Design Show
  • Sponsored by the Private Enterprise Programme Zambia (PEPZ) in collaboration with the National Arts Council and Zambia Art and Design Show (ZADS).

3 categories of awards

Prizes will be given to:

Most Innovative New Product Collection

  • A trophy designed and crafted in Zambia
  • A cash prize of ZMW 10,000
  • A professional photoshoot of the collection with a double-page spread in a leading Zambian magazine

Promising Young Artisan Entrepreneur

  • A cash prize of ZMW 2,500
  • 3 months’ mentorship from a product design expert

Most Creative ZADS stand

  • A cash prize of ZMW 5,000

Most Innovative Product Collection:

  • Creative vision
  • Creative use of materials
  • Originality
  • Artistic quality
  • Marketability
  • Collection has the potential to be expanded into even more products

Promising Young Artisan Entrepreneur:

  • Artisans below 35 years
  • Technical skills
  • Creative vision
  • Marketability
  • Range of products

Most Creative stand designs:

  • Creativity in presentation overall
  • Capacity to showcase products to fullest extent
  • Creative use of space
  • Creative use of supporting elements

Details of judging:

For Young Artisan Entrepreneur and Best Display Awards
Judging will take place on 17 November 2018 at ZADS

For Most Innovative Product Collection:

  • All participants must display their products on their ZADS stand by 14:00 hours, 16 November 2018
  • A brief note (less than 1 page) should be available to explain the inspiration and theme of the collection. This note should be available on the stand at the time of judging.
  • The top 10 collections selected by the jury will be displayed for a public vote on Saturday 17 November

Weight of scores:

  • Judges: 70%
  • Public vote: 30%

Prizes will be awarded on Sunday 18 November, 12:00 hours during the award ceremony.
